Mother and Son

Mr. Han Meilin was born in a poor family in Jinan of Shangdong province. His father passed away when he was just two and he was brought up by his mother and grandmother. When still a child, he showed marvelous artistic talent. With no pens or papers to paint, he began to draw on the walls with stones. Founding his artistic talent, his attentive mother saved a little money from her hard life and sent him to primary school to learn Chinese calligraphy and traditional painting. It was his mother’s selfless love that encouraged Han Meilin’s creative passion and motivation.
The “Mother and Son” series sculptures are the gifts Han Meilin gave to his mother. He created over 60 sculptures to express the theme of mother’s love in 2001. The hair, waist and legs of the mother are purposely lengthened to highlight the female’s shapely figure whereas the child appears much smaller to make it look more sweet and cute. Through expressing the scene of kissing, playing, hugging and other physical movements, the “Mother and Son” sculptures display the true and pure love between mother and son. The sculptures are the best interpretations of maternal love and also the best way to his mother.
